My PyCon US 2026 Experience
From May 13–19, 2026, I attended PyCon US 2026 in Long Beach, California. As a developer from Mauritius, this was a remarkable opportunity to connect with the global Python community and contribute to the conference.
Session Host for Emma Smith’s Talk
I served as a session host for “Rust for CPython: Making Python Safer and Robust for Everyone,” presented by Emma Smith. My role involved introducing the talk and managing the live Q&A with the microphone. This hands-on involvement allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the conference experience while deepening my understanding of how Rust can address critical security concerns in CPython.
The Conference Experience
I attended tutorials, sponsor presentations, the main conference tracks, and the job fair. Every talk was engaging and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was very welcoming, with attendees from all backgrounds united by their passion for Python.
Company Booths and a Standout Discovery
One of the highlights was exploring the expo floor, where companies like Cesium Astro impressed me with their innovative work and amazing teams. Many organizations were showcasing their products. These interactions fostered meaningful conversations about projects and conference experience.
Silicon Valley
After PyCon, I visited Apple and Google headquarters in Silicon Valley. Walking through these iconic campuses was a dream come true and an unforgettable experience.
PyMUG Involvement in This Success
I am grateful to PyMUG for the community, learning opportunities, and connections that have supported my journey, and to Abdur Rahmaan for his encouragement and support throughout this process and during the trip. His dedicated work with PyMUG has helped the community gain recognition internationally and create opportunities for developers in Mauritius to connect with the wider Python ecosystem.
This experience reinforced the importance of local technical communities in helping developers connect with the wider world, share knowledge, and pursue opportunities beyond their immediate surroundings.
I look forward to bringing what I have learned back to the local community, continuing to contribute to PyMUG, and encouraging other developers in Mauritius to engage with the international Python community.
